Preventing Kidney Diseases at the Community Level

End-stage renal failure is a dreadful condition and the only treatment would be by dialysis or kidney transplantation. Most of the kidney failure is caused by diabetes mellitus or hypertension, or a combination of both.  Most hypertension or diabetes patients do not have any symptoms until they develop complications. They best way to prevent this condition is to increase public awareness to these conditions and to encourage screening for diabetes, hypertension and proteinuria.

For the past years, our members have organized several Community Service Days with health talks, health screening and counselling. . Those events were jointly organized with the Hong Kong Medical Association and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.  There were health talks and health checks include blood pressure, blood sugar, and urine albumin and waist circumference
